Some people wanted to pull backward
the enormous hands of a ticking clock
but what they did not realise was
that the clock of risk was inevitable
and that sometimes there’s no other choice
but to stand on the right side of history
when we are to defend human rights.

Just listening to . . .
‘Nos Nos Moveran’ by Joan Baez,
and thinking of your poem.
They seemed to go together
like bread and wine.

Oh, I love Joan Baez! I went to a concert in Barcelona a few years ago. Thank you so much for this great comment, David. So glad you thought of that especial song.

My pleasure, Marta,
to for a moment return
to Barcelona in my mind,
through your writing.

I appreciate the sentiments you espouse.
For many of the well meaning people of the world, these sentiments stay captive in words or thoughts. Fear of sacrifice or reprisal keeps us imprisoned within us.

I love the idea that turning a clock back will actually make no difference, and that there is always going to be risk involved when defending human rights. There is an inevitabikity about it, and we have to make the chouce regarding the risk. Such a truth here.

A poetic representation of a complex political issue. It’s well-written, Marta. My delayed response to your poem is I missed it, and I had to visit your site to see whether there’s any new poem. 🙂 🙂 This happened to me twice.

Pulling the Clock back is most times to proving false into right. Pulling forward is most times making hurry up. People have their own choices. 😊
