My most faithful companion
Is following me
Sunrays in the sky needed
I am your most faithful companion on sunny days,
I come into existence as soon as you are born and
The first sunrays pop in through the window bathing you.
Try not to disengage me on such days as I follow all
The movements of your body when you walk, talk, sit
Listen to your favorite hit
Your clothes fit or don’t fit
That’s it.
But when the sky darkens I disappear.
The eye of a storm kills me with its thorn,
Even the slightest clouds treat me with merciless scorn.
I pray to stay
And yell so well
I am the dum(b)bell
Of the body I dwell
Once the good weather is restored I am reborn
To follow you through life’s pleasures and pains.
You’ll carry me until your death
And I will listen to your breath
To your soul, to your heart pulsation.
I am your most faithful companion
But only on sunny days.

I wonder if it was your voice?
And I truly appreciate the way you write beautiful poems on stuff I wouldn’t even imagine. I guess the poem was about our own ‘Shadow’ which is indeed a faithful companion from the day we start our life till the day we take our last breath.
I like the point of view of the shadow which says these words. And how the description of its emotions is provided.
Once again, Marta, you amaze me with your poem. 💞

The most witty and rhythmic lines that I have recently read!! Ironically, I’m that ‘dum(b) bell” 🙂

Are you? No, I don’t think so. Thank you for your appraisal. I am flattered. I don’t know where I got the inspiration to write these lines from. I think I was reading some Jack Kerouac poems that had double rhymes.

It’s a very negative thought but ultimately we are all left alone and it is upto us to come out of our darkest moments.

PS. I want to add that the times when we can’t see the Sun, we know it’s still there giving us the daylight.
Just like the song say, ‘Look for the silver lining, whenever clouds appear in the blue . . .’ XXX

Thank you so much for this lovely comment. I am glad you say my words are “simple and meaningful”. Somehow you are telling me my poetry is accessible to everyone. I like this.

Yes indeed. I personally feel that every form of poetry or post should be as simple as it could be for maximum engagement. What is the point of ultra refinement and selective vocabulary if it doesn’t have that outreach!

Yes, that is true unless you want to write for a literary elite. There are authors almost no one understands, but I love to read them because of the beauty of the language. Take Joyce’s Finegans Wake, for instance.

I love this poem, so much insight. To me, the sunshine reminds me of a Mother hovering over their child. Personally, I don’t have a Mother, but can relate to my own children, watching over them as much as I can, but unfortunately, I’m not always going to be there for each second. However, as long as I’m still breathing I will continue to return, making them (my children) the most important mission in my life. Beautifully penned.

Bonjour mon amie
